Whilst driving in Mallorca the speed limit is 120kph (75mph on motorways), main roads have a speed limit of 90kph (55mph), and on all other roads you should follow the designated signposts. It is against the law to beep your horn in urban areas unless you are indicating an accident or an emergency. It is also compulsory to wear front and rear seat belts. Should you be stopped by the police for any traffic violation you may be issued with an on the spot fine, even if you are not resident. With the island being a tourist resort it is advisable not to drink and drive at all, as the police hand down severe prison sentences. You should carry with you at all times your license and travel documentation.
