
Manacor is located 50 Km from Palma de Mallorca, and with a surface area of 260.22 km2 and 30,000 inhabitants, it is one of the largest municipalities on Mallorca. It is the county administrative centre and is home to different public bodies which serve the region, such as the Inland Revenue office. It also serves as a commercial centre for all the surrounding villages. Manacor is famous for its artificial pearl industry. The first factory was set up in 1902 by Eduard Frederic Hug Heusch, a German industrialist, and in 1952 this factory introduced a new pearl called Majorica, which was of a much higher quality than the rest. Every day hundreds of tourists go on organised visits to see how the pearls are produced.

A beach situated by the Cala Romàntica coastal development within the municipality of Manacor, and mainly comprises detached single-family constructions for tourist use. It is somewhat larger than the neighbouring developments of Cala Anguila and Cala Mendia, with which it forms an unbroken line of development along the coast. Well protected from the wind and seaborne storms. The situation of the beach means that it is an ideal spot for swimming right from the start of summer, or even during winter for the more adventurous. At the height of summer, the high throughput of pleasure craft in the port means that the quality of the water is not as high as at other points on the island, even so, there are always plenty of swimmers in the water. Also known as Cala Moreia, is 350m long and 35m wide; it is very popular during the summer months. At the right-hand end of the beach there is a small platform which is used as a landing dock, whilst at the other end of the beach there is a small pool where the torrent of N´Amer flows out to sea.
