Mallorca is a well-known location for sailing enthusiasts and in addition to high powered yachts and power boats, you will also find many wind powered vessels sailing around the island.

Every year major events such as the Trofeo Princesa Sofia (The Princess Sofia Trophy) take place. The event is named after King Juan Carlos of Spain’s wife Queen Sofia.

Yacht clubs in Arenal, Can Pastilla, Palma and Calanova host the event. There are fourteen Olympic classes and seven regatta events. Boats from countries such as Japan, Australia, South Africa and Canada compete. There are major parties and outdoor events at all the clubs that participate, and spectators come from all over the world. The site of thousands of sailing boats against the back drop of Palma Bay is a sight to behold.

Throughout the year there are various competitions and regattas; which take place on the island in addition to numerous venues where you can learn how to sail.
