Sailing in Mallorca
Mallorca is a famous haunt for the sailors and people who love the sea. Of course there are many high powered yachts and power boats, however the island also caters for the real sailors of the sea. Every year major events such as the Trofeo Princesa Sofia (The Princess Sofia Trophy) take place. The event is named after King Juan Carlos of Spain’s wife Queen Sofia.
Yacht clubs in Arenal, Can Pastilla, Palma and Calanova host the event. There are fourteen Olympic classes and seven regatta events. Boats from countries such as Japan, Australia, South Africa and Canada compete. There are major parties and outdoor events at all the clubs that participate, and spectators come from all over the world. The site of thousands of sailing boats against the back drop of Palma Bay is a sit to behold.
Through out the year there are various competitions and regattas. We will endeavour to keep you up to speed on everything that is happening on the island.
